The Misadventures of Margaret Review

Were it not for Parker Posey, I'd give this film one star. She alone makes it worth the watch, although even then it's a mostly painful experience.
The main problem is the story; not only its content, but its TONE. Posey is a wallflower of an author living among sophisticated New Yorkers. She and her college professor husband (Jeremy Notham) are suffering a "seven year itch." Posey feels like she's "missing something." So she has silly fantasies about adultery, and about lesbianism (with Brooke Shields), and about naked men, and a French man, and her dentist, and other occassional diversions.
That's mostly all they are. Silly, diverting fantasies involving thinly drawn "characters."
Shields is a very slight character. I didn't believe she was a lesbian, or really anything. That's because her "character" feels as though she has no inner life. Most of the "characters" feel similarly empty. (There's the obligatory "neurotic gay friend.") Their remarks are meant to be witty and pithy, but they all feel vapid and lacking substance. Like there's nobody inside those shell of a bodies.
Even Posey feels emptier than in her usually excellent work. She and Northan do manage to conjure up some real chemistry and poignancy in the final 5 or 10 minutes, which comes as a surprise in this otherwise vacuous film. So I'm elevating this film from 1 to 2 stars. But overall this film is dull.
Some other problems: this DVD is FULL SCREEN. I thought that maybe this was a TV movie (it feels too slight and vapid even for that), yet there are shots of men's buttocks, and Posey's breasts, so perhaps it was a made-for-HBO (or whatever) movie. Or maybe it was indeed shot wide screen, in which case shame on this DVD making an already bad film worse.
Additionally, this DVD has NO MENU, and NO SPECIAL FEATURES, and NO SCENE SELECT. You pop in the DVD, it goes straight to some trailers and promos (which you must fast forward through), then straight to the film, and then it ends and that's it.
One of Posey's worst films. For her better work, see such brilliant films as HOUSE OF YES (black comedy), CLOCKWATCHERS (office comedy), HENRY FOOL (Hal Hartley's best work), or the under-rated Christmas family film DINNER AT FRED'S (proof that Posey can handle Meg Ryan type romantic comedy roles).
But MISADVENTURES OF MARGARET is just a dull dud, and on a poorly produced DVD.

I hesitated renting this one because I already owned it on DVD. That version looked terrible - fuzzy, grainy, generally like crap. The Bluray is much sharper and more enjoyable to watch. Pretty good special features, too. I'm actually considering adding it to my collection of Blurays.

Lexx: Series 3 V-2 (2000) Review

The first season is the best but the second season is quite good. Pay attention to the other "real people" that have reviewed it. First of all LEXX was out long before Farscape so the ridiculous line about sound familiar is out of context. LEXX is unique in its approach to SciFi. It is far more graphic in violence and erotic behavior than other series you will see. I have purchased the first two seasons on DVD since I think they are the best. The rest are worth seeing but I am not sure about buying.

They could have named this one the Fugitive II and gotten away with it. There was a slight lack of originality, but the spectacular cast pulls it off. Overall the movie was good. Tommy Lee Jones does a wonderful job and Robert Downey, Jr. was memorable as well. The comic relief was a must and was appreciated as it helped counterract the amazing suspense level present. I think I will add this one to my collection.

Bowfinger (1999) Review

Bowfinger (1999)

This has got to be one of the fuuniest movies I have seen in a long time. I was laughing so hard that I was crying. My friend was the one who wanted to go see this movie. I was very very skeptical about his choice. I thought that this movie looked so stupid and I had no intentions of spending $6.50 to go and see it. But I was dead wrong. In fact I spent $6.50 two more times. The movie is about Bobby Bowfinger, who is played by Steve Martin, a movie producer that is going through some hard times when he thinks that his bad luck has come to an end, when he reads the script of a movie he thinks will be big. He wants a big time actor to star in the movie. So he offers the role to Kit Ramsey, played by Eddie Murphy. Kit turns him down, so Bowfinger decides to make him the star of the film without him knowing he is being filmed. Bowfinger also puts together a bunch of no name actors to be in the movie and interact with Kit Ramsey without Kit knowing that it is a movie. Thats all I'm going to say. So if you want to see a movie that is very funny and original then check out Bowfinger. I am very anxious for this movie to come out on dvd.

Personally among many of Ally Mcbeal series,I prefer Season one. That's why I can't help buying this VHS. This VHS has the begining story of Ally Mcbeal. That is really attractive. Sometimes I wonder how David E. Kelly who is not a woman, can describe the inner feelings of women like this.Unbelievable!
Especially, I like her voice over. It reminds me of Doogies diary in my childhood.
Well, if there is a DVD version, that must be a better choice...
